Prickly Pear

Prickly pears are the egg-sized fruit of a species of cactus, and have an almost bubblegum flavour. They were once an invasive nuisance in Australia, but now their unique flavour is being rediscovered by foodies.

Prickly pear smoothie Recipe


2 prickly pear (Fruit & Veg Supply, Stalls 21-25, H Shed)
2 bananas (Fruit & Veg Supply, Stalls 21-25, H Shed)
2 cups milk (Market Organics, Stalls 45-55, I Shed)
2 tbsp plain yoghurt (Big Vic Deli, Shop 25-28, Dairy Hall)
1 tbsp honey, or to taste (Land of Soy and Honey, Shop 10-11, Dairy Hall)


Peel the prickly pears. Remove the seeds by cutting each prickly pear in half and pushing the fruit through a sieve using a fork, collecting the juice in a bowl.

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend on high until smooth.
