This year as part of Market Week, the Markets of Melbourne (Queen Vic, South Melbourne, Prahran and Dandenong Markets) held the inaugural Melbourne Market Awards.
The awards are designed to celebrate Market traders and to acknowledge the contribution Market traders make to the city of Melbourne.
As part of the voting process, the public voted for their favourite coffee, deli, seafood, meat, poultry, specialty and general merchandise traders within each Market.
The favourites were then mystery shopped by a panel of judges: Hilary McNevin (journalist), NickyRiemer (Union Dining) and Russell Zimmerman (Australian Retailers Association) to decide the best of the best.
Queen Victoria Market’s ‘Favourite’ traders, as voted by the public, were:
Favourite Coffee Trader: Coffea
Favourite Seafood Trader: Happy Tuna
Favourite Specialty Trader: M & G Caiafa
Favourite General Merchandise Trader: Pompous Paws
Favourite Meat Trader: Sardes Quality Meats
Favourite Fruit & Veg Trader: JT’s Fruit & Veg
Favourite Poultry Trader: The Chicken Pantry
Favourite Delicatessen Trader: Curds & Whey
The big winners on the night – judged ‘Best’ out of all Markets for their categories:
