Queen Victoria Market - General Questions

  1. How do I apply for a stall?

  2. When are you open?

    The Market is closed every Monday, Wednesday and most Public Holidays throughout the year.  This includes:
    Good Friday, Anzac Day, Melbourne Cup Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

    There are occasions where days such as Christmas Eve fall on a Monday or Wednesday.  Traditionally, the Market will open due to popular demand, but with limited trading hours.

    The Market is always open on Easter Sunday.

  3. Can I buy meat and vegetables on Sundays?

    All areas of the Market are open on all trading days, except the Wine Market which only operates in I Shed on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

    There are no specific ‘Fresh Produce Days’ or ‘General Merchandise Days’.  All areas are open each day.

  4. Can I return or exchange an item that I bought?

    You will need to contact the stallholder or shop owner from where you purchased your item.  If you do not recall the shop or stall name, you can contact us on 03 9320 5822 or info@qvm.com.au detailing the item, location and description of the shop/stall and we will endeavour to locate the trader.

  5. I'm a student doing an assignment, can I interview anyone on your staff?

    This website has been loaded with detail that is intended for the general public and students to use for information and/or assignment purposes. 

    Whilst we wish to support all students in their class work, our website includes all relevant information to assist in your research.  Please note, financial data is confidential company information and not available to the public.

  6. I am looking for casual work, have you anything available?

    To obtain a job with a stall holder or shop owner, you will need to approach them individually yourself as Queen Victoria Market Pty Ltd does not provide an employment service for any of its tenants.

  7. How do I ask Queen Victoria Market for a donation for our fundraising event?

    Donations for fundraising activities are considered sponsorship opportunities, therefore, we would ask you to please complete our Sponsorship Application form.

  8. Do I need a permit to film or take photographs for commercial, student or promotional purposes at Queen Victoria Market?

    Yes, filming or photography at the Market for commercial, student or promotional purposes requires a permit and all requests must be received in writing. 

    Please allow 7 to 10 business days for the permit application process to be completed.   Applications received giving short notice may be rejected.

    Please email info@qvm.com.au with the following information:

    * Company name (including ACN/ABN, Address, Telephone, Fax, Website)

    * Purpose of the filming/photography

    * Proposed date and time of the filming/photography

    * Number in the film/photo crew including any talent

    * Copy of your company’s Public Liability Insurance equivalent to a minimum of AUD $10M. 

    PLEASE NOTE:  Insurance policies MUST be in Australian Dollars only.  Policies insured in Foreign Currencies are not acceptable.

    As of January 1 2011, the minimum amount will increase to AUD $20M.

    Once the above information has been received, your request will be reviewed.  If approved, a filming or photography permit application will be sent to you for your signature.  Please note, a fee may be applicable.
     
    Queen Victoria Market Pty Ltd does not provide parking or assistance with Melbourne City Council parking permits.
     
    For students conducting filming or photography assignments, your application must come from your lecturer with a copy of your school/college/university’s Public Liability Insurance.

  9. How can I apply for a promotional stall at the Market?

    Promotional stalls for commercial purposes must be applied for in writing.  Not all promotions are accepted, especially when the product being presented for promotion is in direct competition with any of our traders.

    Applications must be made 8 weeks (2 months) prior to promotion date and should include:

    - Company Name
    - Product being presented for promotion
    - Proposed Date & Time for the promotion
    - Space required for the promotion
    - Proposed activity being undertaken for the promotion
    - Number of staff at the promotion
    - Logistical information such as delivery of product, set up, pack down

    Roving promotional staff are not permitted at Queen Victoria Market.  All promotions must remain static.

    A fee applies to all promotions.

  10. Can I give out promotional flyers at the Market?

    Promotional handbills other than those created and distributed by Queen Victoria Market Pty Ltd are not permitted at any time.

  11. How can I arrange a fundraising stall at the Market?

    Fundraising stalls at Queen Victoria Market are provided free of charge to Charities and some fundraising organizations.  As such, this activity is considered sponsorship, therefore you will need to complete a Sponsorship Application form here.

  12. How can I lodge a complaint?

    Complaints can be forwarded via mail, email or telephone.

    If your complaint is about a trader, please include in your correspondence the stall name, location and nature of your complaint.

  13. I am in a band and would like to get a gig at Queen Victoria Market, how can I do this?

    We receive numerous enquiries from performers daily and ask all to please complete our Become a Performer form to apply.

    Do not apply in person, applications must be made via our website ONLY.

     

  14. How do I get a busking permit?

    Busking permit applications must be made in person at the Market Administration office located at 513 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne.  The office is open 7 days from 8am to 4pm, except Public Holidays.

  15. Can I bring my dog to the Market?

    Dogs are not permitted in any enclosed or covered area of the Market.  This includes the Deli Hall, Meat Hall, Food Court, Elizabeth Street and Victoria Street Shops and all sheds with the exception of Guide Dogs for the visually impaired or Assistant Dogs.

  16. I attended a course but I've lost my certificate, how do I obtain replacement?

    Replacement certificates can be obtained at an administrative fee of $35.00 +GST.

Queen Victoria Market - Trader Questions

  1. I would like to obtain a list of your traders and contact details to get our products sold at the Market?

    Due to privacy laws, Queen Victoria Market does not provide lists of traders and contact details.

  2. Do you sell live chickens?

    There are two stall holders who sell live birds including chickens and ducks on Fridays and Saturdays only.  You'll find one stall at the bottom of F shed on Queen street, the other stall is at the top of B shed on the Peel street end.

    It is not possible to provide details on what breeds are going to be sold as these are subject to availability and can change from week to week.
