The 10th birthday of the Turkish Pazar Festival is being celebrated over two days at the Queen Victoria Market. The Festival, will transform the Market into a traditional Turkish bazaar where visitors will experience the vibrant tastes, colours and sounds of Turkey through food, music, arts and crafts and cultural displays. All entertainment is free and suitable for people of all ages and abilities.
An all-day traditional Turkish breakfast and numerous food stalls will entice the taste buds. Offerings include gözleme (savoury pancakes), kebabs (how many types are there?), kumpir (baked potatoes Turkish style), and börek (sweet and savoury pastries). Visitors can relax over an authentic Turkish coffee prepared on a hot bed of sand and maybe get their fortune told as well.
The stage program will include overseas performers Aydın Beyoḡlu and Akin Zabit as well as local musicians showcasing many styles of traditional and modern Turkish music. On Sunday a highlight will be the military precision of the colourful Australian Mehter Band, the first Ottoman style marching band outside Turkey.
