Meet the Maker – Trinkets & Treasures from Melbourne Twins

Meet the Maker will be introducing you to some of our Markets most creative and talented artisans, all of whom have a passion for creating unique products teamed with an interesting story.

Every weekend in String Bean Alley you will find sisters – identical twins actually – sharing their considerable creative talents at Aminalee.

From modern, cool and brightly coloured pieces through to evening glamour and custom bridal works; this is girl heaven. We caught up with Amina for a chat:

QVM – Hi Amina, we love the way you style your space in String Bean Alley! What unique pieces should we keep our eye on?

Aminalee – Our gorgeous vintage handbags. These are restored – often with new straps – thoughtfully embellished and polished up. The result is a one of a kind piece; truly yours alone.

QVM – You are at the Market each weekend; what’s happening Monday to Friday?

Aminalee – My sister Nadia and I are at work in the studio full time, creating our range of customized, eye catching, and intricate jewelry.

Ninety percent of our stock is handmade; it is a time consuming and creative process. The things we find in this city like the sculptures and artworks, as well as the beautiful gems in our studio constantly inspire us.

Serious undertakings for us are custom pieces for Brides, and often the whole bridal party. We like to use items supplied by the bride in combination with embellishments that we know will work with their vision.

QVM – Sounds gorgeous!
How did you come to be at the Market?

Aminalee – I have been making jewelry since High School; supplying boutiques since 2003. This lead to taking a stall at the monthly QVM artists markets and now we operate from String Bean Alley each weekend.

QVM – As insiders what are your top Market tips?

Aminalee – Get to know the traders!
There are big characters, many of which have been involved with the market for generations. Stop rushing, chat and get to know them. It’s fascinating.

I don’t know any other workplace where there is such a supportive environment, and the multiculturalism is fantastic. We get our fresh produce for the entire week at the market – it’s fantastic.

QVM – Thanks for sharing your vision with us Amina, see you on the weekend!

LOOK OUT FOR AMINALEE’S STALL IN STRING BEAN ALLEY EVERY FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY – AND AT THE NIGHT MARKET ON WEDNESDAY NIGHTS.
