Hidden Treasures: New Year’s Eve

‘Twas the week after Christmas, when all through the home.
All the creatures were stuffed and not moving a bone.
The prawns had been cooked and eaten with care.
And the Boxing Day sales had been tackled with flair.

The weather was sunny causing kids outside to leap.
While parents were exhausted wanting nothing more than sleep.
‘But wait’ one exclaimed as the festive season tried to leave,
‘We may have just forgotten about New Year’s Eve!’

Christmas has been and gone but the festive season isn’t over yet!

This Thursday we celebrate as one year comes to a close and another one starts off. And in true Australian spirit, it is time to take a picnic to the parks around Melbourne and herald in the New Year with some fireworks.

We have been scouring the Market for a whole range of delicious and delectable treats to form the centrepiece of any picnic. Seafood, cherries, chocolate . . . Here are our suggestions to make your celebration the envy of the park!

Prawns are quickly becoming the new Christmas feature on tables around Australia, but that doesn’t mean you need to stop eating them on December 25th. They make the perfect accompaniment to a New Year’s barbeque down by the Yarra or served alongside some Mt. Martha oysters on a cold seafood platter. Visit Yianni at the Seafood and Oyster Spot to pick up some of these renowned oysters and Australian banana and tiger prawns.
